OVERVIEW:We currently have an opportunity available for a Training Counselor with our Employment and Community Support Services division. Under the supervision of the Program Coordinator, this position is responsible for implementing self help training programs for assigned clients. 

Duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Implementing training programs designed to increase client’s pre-vocational, self-help, personal care, fine and gross motor, communication, community orientation, perceptual/cognitive, and social skills.
  • Conducting Adult Daily Living Skills training sessions designed to meet the clients’ individual needs.
  • Scheduling job and/or training situations and assists in determining simplified work/training methods to meet specific client needs.
  • Assisting clients in increasing their productivity, meeting quality control standards, developing appropriate worker behaviors, and in the overall attainment of their rehabilitation/habilitation goals.
  • Maintaining accurate attendance, production, training, chronological and progress reports on assigned clients.

 

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: This position requires the incumbent to have a minimum of an Associate's degree, Bachelor's degree is preferred. 

Experience: Minimum of at least two years experience working with a developmentally disabled client population. The incumbent must demonstrate the experiences, beliefs, attitude and awareness that indicate cultural sensitivity to the client population served.

  • Must have the ability to partner with clients individually in family, to help them mobilize resources and their inner capacity to address problems they face.
  • Must be able to coordinate effectively with other team members, other agency resources and outside services in addressing client needs.
