Job Description

Basic Function: Develops job placement opportunities and places clients who have completed the agency’s placement program and are deemed qualified for employment in public and private sector jobs. Under supervision of the Manager of Placement Services.

 

Principal Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Works closely with appropriate staff to determine the employment potential of agency clients.
  • Counsels and interviews clients to determine service needs, skills, abilities and interests relating to job placement; develops service plans and evaluates the effectiveness of services given to agency clients.
  • Develops an employability plan for each individual needing employment and/or training.
  • Provides pre-employment orientation and related follow-up services to clients interested in and/or referred for employment.
  • Conducts on-site job analysis and consultation, and makes recommendations for job modifications when appropriate.
  • Provides follow-up counseling to clients placed in jobs to ensure adequate job adjustment and retention.                                                                                
  • Plans and directs activities concerned with developing sources of potential employers.                                                                                    
  • Makes regular contacts with business and social employers to augment the number of job listings, to gather job data, and to develop working relationships; becomes familiar with the company’s hiring policies, benefits, and structure. 
  • Responds to telephone and written requests concerning the agency’s clients availability and job readiness.
  • Maintains an organized system of recording job openings including names of employers, contact persons, person referred, action taken, etc.
  • Assists employers in identification, modification and/or elimination of architectural, procedural and attitudinal barriers to the employment of persons with disabilities.
  • Interprets agency policies and services to employers and community groups.
  • Prepares reports and performs record keeping functions required by the agency.
  • Attends seminars, job fairs, conferences and other meetings related to job placement.
  • Develops referral relationships with Illinois Job Service and other employment services.
  • Participates in client’s staffings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Mental/Physical Demands: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to read and interpret documents such as instructional materials, operating instructions, books, catalogues, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Job Requirements

  • This position requires a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in business, or a related human service field and at least one year’s experience.
  • Must have a valid Illinois driver’s license and own or have access to a car.
  • Demonstrates the experiences, beliefs, attitude and awareness that indicate cultural sensitivity to the client population served.
  • Ability to partner with clients individually in family, to help them mobilize resources and their inner capacity to address problems they face.
  • Ability to coordinate effectively with other team members, other agency resources and outside services in addressing client needs
