Basic Function: The chief of staff role is to provide strategic counsel and support to leadership within the agency. While the day-to-day responsibilities vary dramatically, the position is a key component in supporting leadership and enabling collaborative strategic initiatives. Candidate will have the skill and experience to integrate themselves into the organization and assess issues that serve as barriers to the team or organization operating at maximum effectiveness. This position assumes day-to-day responsibility for cross-functional and agency-wide projects, compliance efforts, strategic initiatives, agency-wide events and growth opportunities, including mergers and acquisitions. This role serves as a strategic advisor and counsel to the CEO and agency leadership.


Reporting Relationship:

Reports To: Chief Executive Officer

Supervises: N/A


Principal Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate and/or monitor strategic and cross-collaborative initiatives
  • Act as CEO proxy at meetings and external relations
  • Manage communications with key stakeholders while creating and maintaining cross-departmental relationships
  • Serve as an internal liaison between program operations and administrative departments for key initiatives and projects including those projects derived from the strategic plan
  • Manage and/or reports on the portfolio of projects and initiatives
  • Creating & updating dashboards for reviewing cost, timeline, scope, and key performance indicators in partnership Programs and Administrative departments for projects and operating metrics
  • Act as the project manager for specific key projects
  • Pursue expansion opportunities within existing or new partnerships, programs and social enterprises
  • Enable the agency’s healthy growth, expanding community impact, and mission success
  • Other duties as assigned

Mental/Physical Demands: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Environmental Conditions: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Duties are performed in a typical office environment. No unusual or adverse working conditions exist.


Job Requirements


  • The position requires a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree preferred, from an accredited college or university.
  • At least ten years of management or relevant experience in the education or health and human service industries
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to convert strategic plans into operational projects and activities
  • Knowledge of project management software and MS Office Suite, including PowerPoint, Project, Excel Word and Visio
  • PMP or relevant certification preferred
  • Ability to help increase the scale of organizations
