Job Description

Basic Function: Supervises and coordinates the activities of Janitorial Services in the Chicago South and West Suburban locations.

Principal Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Trains, develops, and supervises all supervisors, crew leaders, and employees at the Federal Janitorial South and Northwest Suburban locations to ensure efficient and timely work completion.
  • Daily travels to locations outside of Chicago insuring site coverage is met and quality services meets contract standards as well as scope of work.
  • Screen, evaluate and select employees to perform janitorial services functions.
  • Assumes responsibility of meeting job specifications, which may include assisting employees.
  • Assist with preparing work schedules and assigns relief personnel to fill in for absent/vacating staff.
  • Assists in developing quality control standard and procedures; implements quality control procedures at the project site.
  • Makes regular quality control inspections in accordance with established standards and ensures quality parameters are being met.
  • Ensures the safety and well being of staff on the job site through training and communication.
  • Serves as the initial point of contact with the site representative regarding contract specifications and requirements.
  • Implements corrective action measures regarding performance/attendance in accordance with program policies and procedures.
  • Conducts routine quality control inspections in accordance with the statement of work.
  • Maintains appropriate inventories of housekeeping supplies; develops systems for distributing and monitoring supply usage.
  • Prepares payroll time sheets and personnel records.
  • Implements staff orientation and training programs.
  • *Request purchases of supplies and equipment within budgetary limits; monitors program expenditures.
  • *Assists in developing contracts, budgets, marketing custodial services, and identifying competitive and support program placements slots.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Mental/Physical Demands:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Have the ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and emails. Ability to write simple correspondence. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and talk or hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Environmental Conditions:

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; work is performed primarily inside, but work requires some exposure to outside weather conditions.

SPECIFICATIONS:

Position requires completion of College Degree. Five years of experience in the field of custodial services, and at least three years in supervision.

OTHER SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, equipment and practices.
  • Ability to prepare written reports and other correspondence relating to the job as necessary.
  • Ability to establish and good working relationships with customers as well as other supervisors and management personnel.
  • Ability to partner with clients individually, in family, to help them mobilize resources and their inner capacity to address problems they face.  
  • Ability to instruct housekeeping employees in the performance of manual tasks requiring moderate strength.
  • A thorough knowledge of the operation of all mechanical cleaning equipment.
  • Have a valid driver’s license and able to travel from site to site.
